QIANYI QIN

I'm a philosopher with research interests spanning philosophy of mind, metaphysics, and ethics, across Chinese, Indian, and Western traditions. I adopt a cross-cultural and interdisciplinary methodology, drawing on multiple textual traditions as well as empirical work. My recent work explores dimensions of self in imaginative experience and the ethics of imagination. I'm currently pursuing a research project on how attunement to particular others and generalized altruism are theorized across Buddhism, Neo-Confucianism, and European phenomenology, while building conversation with social psychological work on empathy and pro-sociality.

I'm currently Assistant Professor of Philosophy at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), San Luis Obispo. In January 2027, I will join the Department of Philosophy at Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Previously, I've taught at Smith College, City College of New York, New York University, and the Rangjung Yeshe Institute in Nepal.
